This was my first time being the sole Audio Designer or any project. I didn´t want to solely rely on free sounds and music, so I created the game over song for the game inspired by Jak II.
The design pillars of the game are as follows; Variety, the game will not feel the same each time you play because of the choices you make.
Choice: At the start of each run and when you defeat a boss you get to pick and choose between upgrades to make yourself more powerful. Each choice comes with a downside as well, forcing the player to think before they act.
Unfamiliarity: The location of the game is unknown to the player and unfamiliar, giving them a sense of being alone and having to rely on yourself in order to survive.
On the first day I made a blockout of the arena the game takes place in, at first multiple arenas were meant to be made with island floating around but that idea got scrapped.
The inside of the arena, the red blocks were placeholders for statues that unfortunately never made their way into the game.
This was one of the main islands you were meant to fight on, after realizing we were over scoping we changed that idea to having one big platform you fight on, or multiple ones around you can access easily.
We wanted to have a tutorial area were the player is safe and can practice their powers on a practice dummy. This was the blockout for it. The reason for adding this was because of the feedback we got, it was too "hectic" without having a safe space.
This is were the second boss takes place, against a dragon. There are 3 major platforms and one small one in the middle connecting them all together. I was working on the Chaos physics in the game so that the pillars could be destroyed.
With the pillars being destructible, it added more to the game but unfortunately they were cut in the final product. Here is the first boss that you fight in the game in a rough state.
This was the third level but never got used. The idea was to have a boss that would jump from platform to platform attacking you while you´re doing the same.
After writing 10 different story headlines, this is the one that got picked. Minos in game was voiced by me, he was suppose to have had a bigger roll but it never came into fruition.
The first game idea I pitched to the team after doing research on Egyptian mythology and ancient Rome. For more inspiration I watched "Gladiator". This idea in the end was scrapped but we kept the concept of having bosses that you fight in an arena.
I pitched the idea of having the setting being Egyptian and the player encountering multiple bosses that fit the theme. The setting got changed by the core concept stayed the same.
