Ruins (2 Weeks, Group, Unreal 4)

This was a group project consisting of 3 people including me. We each had a zone to create our own level, I will showcase the one I made (Ruins).

I started with a quick blockout to show my thought process and vision for the area. The layout and placements of everything are the exact same places were the real assets are located in the final build.

I started with a quick blockout to show my thought process and vision for the area. The layout and placements of everything are the exact same places were the real assets are located in the final build.

Once the blockout was done, I swapped out the placeholders with the real assets. I wanted to make it look like people used to live here, you see their homes been taken over by mother nature.

The view when coming to the ruins from the village below it. Using Blueprints I made the platform move between two points so that the player could access places you couldn´t otherwise.

The player won´t visit anything beyond this hill but it is still important to make everything feel alive. Wind, rain, trees, leaves falling and so much more going on in the background.

The objective was to platform your way to the top, what better way than adding movable floating platforms to make your way to the top.

The volcano in the distance was added last minute, thought it would bring out more of a ruin feel to the level.

Attention to detail is very important to the game but to me as a creator. If something feels out of place it will be changed or removed. Every detail matters, big or small.

Making your way up to the top, you get the feeling of being small and that people used to live here before mother nature took hold.
